Review
Based on Stephanie Meyer's best selling novel, this movie has also been very successful. Indeed, as a teen romance movie, it would probably score a full five stars; but as a vampire movie, it is not quite so hot.
First, vampires unnecessarily, almost for the sheer contrariness of it, are abletolive, even 'glow' in sunlight. This means that for all practical purposes, they are invulnerable. This raises the obvious question of why they bother to live so humbly. Second, all the vampires have a special gift; seeing the future, reading minds, completeing sudoku at lightening speed, etc.
All this disracts from the story, which may be just as well, as it's a pretty boring love story, with endless misunderstandings that all could have been avoided by the leading characters being honest with each other.
The movie smooths over some of the sophistication of the book, leaving the audience over dependant on the herat throb leading character, and frankly unbelievable plot twists.
